All the world celebrates Pina colada day on 10th July of every year. Pina Colada is a sweet cocktail made with rum, pineapple juice and coconut milk. The drink is very famous in the world. The cocktail is everyone’s favourite summer drink.
Who invented the Pina Colada ?
There is unresolved mystery behind the question that who created pina colada first on the island. Three different bartenders claimed the invention as their own. One of them is A Bartender Ramon Monchito Marrero created the cocktail Pina Colada in 1954 at the Caribe Hilton Hotel. He mixed up a fruity blend of rum, coconut cream and pineapple juice and boom. Mr. Marrero finally settled upon the recipe for the pina colada. For the next 35 years, he would personally serve his cocktail while he bartended at the hotel. In 1978, Pureto Rico (Caribbean island) declared the Pina Colada its official drink. The hotel was presented with a proclamation in 2004 by Pureto Rico Governor Sila Maria Calderon celebrating the drink’s 50th anniversary.
The another one is Ricardo Garcia, who was a bartender at the same hotel (Caribe Hilton hotel), claimed that he crafted the drink first in 1954. The third one, Mr Ramon Potas Mignot is a bartender in Old San Juan, declared to crafted the delicious cocktail in 1963. While it is not known which hands were the ones that created the famous pina colada, one thing is for sure, it has not only become Pureto Rico’s National drink, but a favorite around the world.
Classic Pina Colada Recipe
Ingredients
- White Rum- 60 ml
- Coconut cream – 30 ml
- Pineapple juice – 120 ml
- Ice – to half fill blender
- Pineapple slice – to garnish
- Glass type – Hurricane glass
Instructions
- Blend all the ingredients with the ice
- Pour into the glass
- Garnish with the pineapple slice and serve
